Acts of terror – against the little

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011 by greenboy

Yelling at spitting at an 8-year old because she dresses immodestly – that’s just pitiful.  What’s worse is that we help fund these bozos.  Amazing that their country-mates put up with them – in a country surrounded by hostile nations with compulsory military service, these loons are exempt – presumably so they have more free time to scare the bemoishe out of little school kids who aren’t sufficiently holy.

Not surprising really, when you consider the little acts of terror in the ‘price tag’ campaign on the part of their ‘settler’ brethren (not that this is ‘news,’ price tag terror has been brewing for a few years now).  Fortunately, other than the official government randomly raining death and terror on the folks in Gaza when the Hezbollah become too uppity, the colonials haven’t been caught plotting anything as evil as the bombing of Arab schoolgirls for sometime – let’s hope their Reactionary government wakes up to the clear and present danger these various loons represent.

A little perspective on Air Terror

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009 by greenboy

Fubar sent me this link, apparently he’s to lazy to post it himself:  The Odds of Airborne Terror.

The money quote:

“…the odds of being on given departure which is the subject of a terrorist incident have been 1 in 10,408,947 over the past decade. By contrast, the odds of being struck by lightning in a given year are about 1 in 500,000. This means that you could board 20 flights per year and still be less likely to be the subject of an attempted terrorist attack than to be struck by lightning.”

The definition of ‘chutzpah’

Apparently, nobody bothered to tell the Israeli militants that their government reserves the exclusive right to ‘wack’ Palestinians. Fortunately, their attempt to blow up a Palestinian girls’ school was stymied by a vigilant police patrol. Now while it doesn’t require any guts to blow up a bunch of unsuspecting elementary school girls with a large ‘trailer bomb,’ it does take chutzpah to employ the following legal defense for their actions:

Attorneys for the men argued they had not intended for the bomb to go off. Instead, the event was supposed to be a media stunt meant as a warning to Palestinian terrorists. Dvir and Morag planned to call police later and tell them about the trailer before it blew up, the attorneys said.

“Planned to call police later”….Right…

Wither the loonies of the far right?

Friday, January 24th, 2003 by greenboy

Now that the Rush Limbaugh era is past, what’s a right-wing loonie to do? Take over Montana!During the ’90s you couldn’t get away from them. The lunatic fringe of the right wing were everywhere. Rush Limbaugh’s reedy voice and fat, smirking face filled the airwaves, bravely defending the perquisites of white men. Numerous Limbaugh “mini-mes” crowded the AM dial, spewing vitrolic about jack-booted thugs killing innocents at Waco and Ruby Ridge.

Tracts circulated about mysterious, night-flying black helicopters filled with U.N. storm troopers preparing to take over the country. Charlton Heston proudly boasted that Federal agents would have to pry his gun out of his cold, dead fingers to disarm him. Weekend militias crawled through the hills. Even stranger groups, like the Montana Freemen declared themselves independent of the U.S., financing their movement through check-kiting and printing their very own currency. They declared that U.S. law didn’t apply to them, and that the only legitimate law rested in the Magna Carta and Admirality Law (of all things).

I think the wave crested with Timothy McVeigh’s home-grown terrorist assault on a Federal building in Oklahoma that left 168 men, women and children dead. It finally broke with his conviction. I remember tuning in that day to local “hot air” radio host Mike Savage and hearing the resignation tinged with regret in the voices of his callers. It was the end of an era.

So where are they now?

The Unbelievable Unlikeliness of (Germ) Bioterror

Thursday, December 26th, 2002 by greenboy

Only really stupid terrorists would unleash germs on an enemy – and terrorists are usually crazy, not stupid. The as-yet-unexplained anthrax spore attacks following September 11th had an effect missing from the twin towers event – they struck terror in the heart of Main Street U.S.A. The Al Qaeda attacks, horrific as they were, seemed isolated, freakish, and…obvious. The anthrax attacks were spread across several states, with seemingly random casualties. But how seriously should we take the threat of germ-based bioterror?

Don’t be ridiculous, we can’t take it seriously at all.  Bioweapons are games for superpowers.   But even if a motley gang of terrorists were given something like a souped-up weaponized smallpox, why would they use it?  Sure, they’d give the Great Satan a black eye, killing a few hundred thousand or even a million people - but the West has groups like the CDC and modern infrastructure.

The major die-off would be in the third-world – in those failed or failing states where the terrorists and their extended families live.  In the earliest moments of a super plague, people would be jumping on planes and spreading the pathogen across the globe.

Terrorists may be crazy, but I wouldn’t call them stupid.
