As if we didn’t already know

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Swopa must be off doing something either more productive or more entertaining. Therefore I must post Cheney’s disclosure that he worked on the Plame press talking points.

From all-but-admitting that he was the force behind the waterboarding and Gitmo to casually almost admitting to this felony, Cheney is just laughing at us, knowing that he ‘got away with it.’

Your tax dollars at work

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Back in September when Shrubya warned of economic doomsday if we didn’t immediately give $700 billion to the financial services execs with no-strings attached, Fubar smelled a rat.

Surely, our money is being put to good use?  Apparently, getting an accounting for the tens of billions spent to date is strictly on a need to know basis.

However, rest assured that at least those poor financial services execs aren’t suffering!  Collectively they’ve received $1.6 billion in compensation for their stellar work:

Benefits included cash bonuses, stock options, personal use of company jets and chauffeurs, home security, country club memberships and professional money management, the AP review of federal securities documents found.The total amount given to nearly 600 executives would cover bailout costs for many of the 116 banks that have so far accepted tax dollars to boost their bottom lines.

See?  Knowing this, doesn’t it truly feel better to give than to receive?

*Update* Sadly, you won’t get the chance to tell any of these pillars of our financial services community how happy you are for them in a chance airport encounter - your tax dollars are still supporting their fleet of private jets.

How the Gingrinch stole Christmas

Monday, December 8th, 2008

Now that the dust has settled over the bad financial waves that Emperor Shrubya vainly tried to whip back (at least until after the election), more information is now filtering out about the architects of the junk mortgage disaster - starting with the Freddie Mac’s “enablers.”

As you might presume, Freddie’s ‘bad government’ partners include some of the usual suspects, like Newt Gingrich, who pulled in $300,000 to lobby his good buddies in Congress and the misAdministration about “the benefits of the Freddie Mac business model” - i.e. against moves to break up Freddie Mac’s business and spread it among other companies such as commercial banks.

But the Grinchster wasn’t alone - here is the current Repug list of shameful enablers:

•Sen. Alfonse D’Amato of New York, at Park Strategies, $240,000
•Rep. Vin Weber of Minnesota, at Clark and Weinstock, $360,297
•Rep. Susan Molinari of New York, at Washington Group, $300,062
•Susan Hirschmann at Williams and Jensen, former chief of staff to House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Sugar Land, $240,790
•Viet Dinh, $300K

Just don’t expect any of these ‘Grinches’ to return any of the misbegotten dough.

Child abuse writ large

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

For all the political rhetoric about ‘The Children’ (don’t pols always trot them out to defend positions on…well just about everything?), it seems like the US really doesn’t give a shit about The Children. How else can you explain the INS treating children like animals, or the hundreds of thousands of American children that went hungry in 2007?

I mean like - WTF?!?

Projection

Monday, November 10th, 2008

 Rep. Paul Broun's twisted imagination

Psychological projection:

psychological projection (or projection bias) is a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others. Projection reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted subconscious impulses/desires without letting the conscious mind recognize them.

More reflections on the Presidential ‘transition’

Nope, no legacy peace treaty...just a stinking pile of crap!

Nope, no legacy peace treaty...just a stinking pile of crap!

A couple of days ago, I was joking about the Shrubya transition plan - wondering if he would leave a trashed WH and pop all the “Os” out of the computer keyboards.  But on seeing Condi’s failure to make even an iota of progress on a ‘legacy’ peace deal in the cis-Jordan, I further reflected on the transition from Clinton to Shrubya, then contrasted it with the current transition.  Clinton left Shrubya with:

* a balanced budget
* $2 billion budget surplus
* under $6 trillion national debt
* fewer Federal employees than his predecessor
* an economic boom
* high levels of unemployment
* the virtual elimination of Big Ag agricultural subsidies
* a 98% agreed-upon peace deal for the cis-Jordan involving S. Lebanon, the Gaza Strip, the occupied territories and Jerusalem with Lebanon, Syria and the Palestinians
* an anti-nuke deal with Little Kim in N. Korea

What presents have King George the Witless left for Obama?

* $400+ billion dollar budget deficit (not counting the cost of the Iraq war)
* $12 trillion national debt (doubled in 8 years)
* a surge in the number of federal employees and paid political appointees
* the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression
* 6.5%+ unemployment highest level in 14 years (since his daddy, King George the Clueless)
* unprecedented levels of corporate welfare Big Ag and Big Oil tax breaks and subsidies
* complete breakdown of cis-Jordan peace talks and 2nd intifada, massive unrest and hardship in the occupied territories and regional ‘cold war’
* Nuclear-armed Little Kim
* election of hard-liners in Iran, virtual elimination of moderate faction
* And to top all that off - a failed costly war in Iraq and a failing war in Afghanistan

And to remember King George the Witless and TurdBlossom’s biggest complaint was a few computer keyboards missing “Ws.” I never thought I’d miss Clinton.

Hottest guy in Wrong-wing punditry

Joe the Plumber evolves into a conservative pundit.  What’s next, a featured blog?  He should be able to blog at least as well as this guy.

Speaking of wrong-wing nut-jobs

Monday, October 27th, 2008

One of my more reactionary co-workers has been raving about Obama not being an American, lacking a US birth certificate and therefore ineligable to be POTUS.  I did a little bit of digging and discovered it was just the latest lunatic hope to which the wingnuts are clinging.  Check out this wrong-wing site’s attempt to show that Obama’s posted birth certificate is a forgery.  Coo-coo!  Coo-coo!  Guess Pamela is hoping for a Dan Rather moment.

Fortunately, Shrubya wasn’t able to completely pack all the Federal courts with pinhead ideologues - a sane “US federal judge on Friday rejected a lawsuit claiming Senator Barack Obama is ineligible to seek the presidency because he was either born in Kenya or is a citizen of Indonesia.”

The price of gun-nuttery

Monday, October 27th, 2008

This precisely summarizes the lunacy of extremist gun enthuiasts:

An eight-year-old boy accidentally killed himself while firing a Uzi submachine gun under adult supervision at a US gun fair.

What kind of “adult’ puts an Uzi in the hands of an 8-year old?

*Update* More wrong-wing freaks that wanted to kill Obama

Dose of reality make Hulk want smash
