“Maverick” campaign financing
Remember the McCain of the “McCain/Feingold” campaign finance reform? I don’t either. After his scathing criticism of Obama’s rejection of public financing, cash-strapped McCain has settled on a ‘maverick’ approach to funding his nasty attack ads – take the money from the RNC. His special hook? McCain in turn is raising money for the RNC.
See how that works? McCain is taking your tax money to run his sleazy campaign – prohibited from raising more money directly for his run, he raises it for the RNC, which in turn, buys the ads for him.

Don’t forget our Maverick was one of the Keating 5. That was when McCain took lots of money from Keating. Slate has a good write up about 8 years ago:

You are spot on, Spy Buddy, Obama should be running Keating 5 ads nonstop. Joe Dumbass probably wouldn’t even realize this happened more than a decade ago.
