So why isn’t this a big story? If it had been directed at McCain, it probably would be front page – so what’s the mechanism behind the difference?

Yeah, imagine if they had belonged to a Mexican drug outfit and had mouthed off about John McCain. It’d have hit 24/7 cable coverage, and the perps would be in transit to Gitmo.
