And who benefits by our continued presence? Certainly not the taxpayer, who has to finance the venture by feeding huge sums to the Military Industrial Complex as long as the festivities continue. In solving nothing, we've created "opportunity," a word used by Cheney and Rice in the aftermath of 9/11. And the lowly taxpayer also pays for the destabilizing effect of our ongoing interventions in the form of higher gas prices and a currency that buys less and less. Protection racket indeed! (They're equally outraged.) What struck me was the timing. While Iraq may have had its say, ultimately it was the hand of Bush & Co. that set the terms. The extended pig trough that is this administration knew the plan had to be enacted before January 20, 2009. So, even though it is further ammunition against McCain, they decided to go for it. The profit potential is just too irresistible. How stupid do they think we are? Yep, I saw this story and harangued my coworkers before 9:30 this morning. (They’re equally outraged.)
